The name of Seekers refers to "those who seek knowledge". We consider ourselves Seekers because we are interested in where we came from, how we got here, and where we could go.
The Blackside of Covington
We are focused on the "Blackside" of Covington. Not the Eastside, Not the Westside - the Blackside. This is what elders tell us. And the Blackside of Covington connects to the Blackside of Cincinnati as well - we find that many of our families are related.
Historically, the Blackside was enforced by segregration, and the stories of how folks created (and create) a life and love in the face of tough odds is something we hold dear.
We also know that Black comes in many shades and colors. We are mixed, and we have roots in many places - and there is a story to how we ended up here.
Making Space for Stories
There are Holders, which refers to "those who hold knowledge". Many times these are our elders, but they can be very young children too - anyone with a story to tell. Anyone can be a Seeker or a Holder (or both).
About this Website
As Seekers we take on the responsibility of finding and supporting the Holders. We make space for their stories to be told, over and over. This website is one of many spaces that we can use to remember those stories, and to remind us to tell them.
